Rumba Lower Basic
February 2026
In February 2026, a dedicated team of volunteers from across Ireland, the UK, and beyond came together to deliver our 5th United Friends for Education project in Rumba, The Gambia.
The Rumba 2026 Project marked a special milestone as we celebrated five years of changing futures through education. Over the course of just 10 days, our volunteers worked side by side with local tradespeople and the Rumba community to create lasting, meaningful impact at Rumba Lower Basic School:
-
Construction of three brand-new classrooms, creating safe and inspiring spaces for children to learn.
-
Refurbishment of three existing classrooms, improving the quality and longevity of the school’s facilities.
-
Construction of a new toilet block, providing essential sanitation for students and staff.
-
Establishment of a community shop, supporting local enterprise and sustainability.
-
Creation of a sheltered outdoor learning area, offering a space for teaching, gathering, and community use.
-
Distribution of education packs and new workbooks for every child, ensuring students have the tools they need to succeed.
-
Donation of football jerseys, bringing joy, pride, and team spirit to the students.
This project represents another powerful step forward in our mission. With five school builds now complete, United Friends for Education continues to expand access to education and opportunity for children across The Gambia.
From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank everyone who has supported us over the past five years. Whether you have donated, volunteered, or followed our journey, your support has made this impact possible.
And to our incredible volunteers, your commitment, energy, and compassion brought this project to life in just 10 days. Working hand in hand with the local community, you have helped build something that will serve generations to come.
