Madiana School
March 2024
In March 2024, a dedicated team of 30 volunteers from all corners of Ireland, including Mayo, Longford, Offaly, West Meath, Cork, Roscommon, Wexford, Kildare, Waterford, Limerick, Tipperary, Down, Monaghan, the UK, and Australia, came together to make a real difference in Madiana.
The Madiana 2024 Project was an ambitious endeavor aimed at enhancing educational facilities and community spaces in the region. With the passion and commitment of our volunteers, we were able to achieve remarkable results:
-
Construction of 3 brand new classrooms, providing a conducive learning environment for Madiana's children.
-
Establishment of a community shop to support local commerce and economic development.
-
Creation of a bantaba (shaded area) for community gatherings and event.
-
Development of a playground area.
-
Refurbishment of existing classrooms, ensuring they remain safe and functional for generations to come.
One of the most heartfelt aspects of this project was the dedication of a new classroom to the memory of Ashling Murphy. With the blessing of Ashling's family, we unveiled 'The Ashling Murphy Memorial Classroom', adorned with symbols of her life and legacy. From her picture and jerseys to a mural celebrating her club, this classroom stands as a lasting tribute to her spirit and impact. It was our privilege to honor Ashling's memory and share her story with the Madiana community, ensuring that her legacy lives on through the education of future generations.
Thank you to all our volunteers, supporters, and partners who made the Madiana 2024 Project a resounding success. Together, we're building a brighter future, one classroom at a time.
